Watercolor and gouache on green-blue tinted paper depicting the livery and office of John C. Totten. Totten was an express agent at Cold Spring and offered conveyance for passengers and packages throughout the surrounding area. Five passengers board a coach pulled by two white horses labeled "Cold Spring" to the left of foreground; man, woman, and child stand next to the white horses near the center of the foreground; two-horse cart with driver stands to far right with a piled load of luggage, cart is marked "J.C. Totten Cold Spring Express". Additional carriage stands further back in the midground, pulled by two horses and waiting for passengers. Carriage house in background to the left housing four additional vehicles with signage reading "Horses & Carriages on Livery"; adjoined to larger building labeled "J.C. Totten" at the top, door marked "Office" on left side, sliding barn doors to right with signage reading "Long Island Express"; treeline is just visible beyond building, sky above painted with several white clouds and minimal pigment. Artwork bordered with thin white line and titled at bottom, "John C. Totten. Cold Spring. L.I."
