Grand Panorama View from the Harbor Hill, Roslyn, L.I. Looking North
Watercolor and gouache on white paper depicting a wide angle panoramic view from the top of Harbor Hill looking North. Foreground consists of densely wooded forest with curving road passing through towards the left, several figures sit at tables and benches in a small clearing in the extreme center foreground, inset watercolor sketch of "The Tower at Harbor Hill" in the left corner. Midground depicts rolling hills leading to various inlets of the Long Island Sound, patchwork fields with occasional trees or structures throughout, main harbor in the center filled with steamships and smaller sailboats, town buildings stretched along the banks of the inlet to the left and scattered to the right deeper in the midground, train tracks travel towards the center foreground from the right midground, three-car train traveling towards the viewer. Background filled with more rolling hills and ships in the great distance, sky is lightly pigmented with scant clouds outlines in grey wash. Painting bordered with this white line, titled below "Grand Panorama View from the Harbor Hill, Roslyn, L.I. Looking North" with subheadings below reading from left to right "Flushing Bay", "Little Neck Bay", "Manhasset", "Roslyn", "Boat Dock", 'Cath. Church", "Hempstead Harbor", "S-----", "Cemet. where remains of Wm. Cullen Bryant are at rest", "Locust Valley", "Oyster Bay Harbor".
