Midground depicts rolling hills leading to various inlets of the Long Island Sound, patchwork fields with occasional trees or structures throughout, main harbor in the center filled with steamships and smaller sailboats, town buildings stretched along the banks of the inlet to the left and scattered to the right deeper in the midground, train tracks travel towards the center foreground from the right midground, three-car train traveling towards the viewer. Background filled with more rolling hills and ships in the great distance, sky is lightly pigmented with scant clouds outlines in grey wash.
